Marlboro/Lenz Uth fusion

The devotees of Marlboro are incredibly warm and enthusiastic and have a fair bit of youth that we, at Lenasia temple, always see but never get chance to chat to. So when we heard that the Marlboro devotees would like our youth group to come down to Marlboro sometime we thought this is a great opportunity to inspire and to become inspired!

Thus SMD took off to Marlboro last Saturday in great excitement. Arriving at Dwarikadish Prabhu’s place, everyone sat in a circle. To get the ball rolling we decided to have an intro session where a member of the smd yg was teamed up with a youth from Marlboro. The pairs were given 5 minutes to get to know each other and then they had to introduce their partner to the rest. It was quite funny as people told of the others most embarrassing moment. There also seemed to some under current rivalry between the different soccer fans. (I must say Manchester United still seems to be the most popular)

Then we had a short discussion on what Krishna consciousness means to us and it is amazing how different things about spiritual life makes such a difference to peoples lives … prasadam being the most important ;o))

Then was the really fun part where the entire group was divided into 6 groups. Each group had to mime out a pastime and the other groups had to guess what the pastime was. It was nice to see how everyone very enthusiastically took part and presented the plays adding special flavours to each one.

Yin Yang update

Saturday SMDYG was great, Isvara Puri Das highlighted the contrasting yet complementary effect of opposites: Yin Yang… who knew it could be so much fun!! Hot cold, dark light….we can appreciate the one having experienced the other. (Appreciate the warmth having experienced the cold…load shedding :o) )

We were asked us to answer a few questions spontaneously:

What we like most about the material world?

We haven been given this body in the material world which we can use in our service and advancement in KC. Ie our eyes to see Krsna, our ears to hear the past times of the Lord….don’t be fooled ..money and cars still topped the list of what the material world has to offer :o(

What we like most about Iskcon/ Spiritual world?

It’s a home to all of us, a guiding force in our lives. In the spiritual world, everything we do will bestow so much more pleasure than in the material world as we would be serving the Supreme personality of Godhead, Krsna.

What can you only get from Iskcon?

We only learn to appreciate and recognize Srila Prabhupada and his efforts through Iskcon.

What else: Prasadam, Sunday Programme, devotee association, deity worship and so much more…

The answers were entertaining and very insightful.

Many thanks to Isvara Puri Das :o) looking forward to seeing everyone at the next SMD YG

Building bridges to rescue Mother Sita

Youth Group on Saturday turned out to be a lot of fun as it always is when there is die hard competition :o)

We first read a sweet pastime from Ramayana where Hanuman finds Sitadevi.

Thereafter we divided into 3 groups where each group has one person on one side asking questions and the rest of the team on the other side answering. In order to get everyone to their side the person asking questions has a slip of paper with a word on it, he/she then has to ask a question from the pastime of Lord Rama where the answer is what is on the slip of paper. They can’t use the word on the paper in the question. When the person across answers correctly (i.e. what is on the paper) they are allowed to cross over to the other side. The team who were able to cross over all their team mates the quickest, won. … Naturally I was on the winning side ;o)) … haha

We then had the Golden Avatar awards where each actor/ess received certificates for their superb performance in the play “Seekers of Truth” (check out the pics in previous posts) and I hope we can do something similar but even better shortly.

Another exciting happening was that Ishan (as we used to know him) received initiation from HH Bhakti Caitanya Maharaja on Sunday! We are all thrilled that this should happen and Ishan’s name is now Ishvara Puri. HARIBOL! Congrats, Ishvara Puri das, wishing all the very best on your path back to Godhead!

Also we'd like to welcome the new members to our youth group. Welcome!!

I’m a poet and I don’t even know it

Last youth group our topic of discussion was “RAMA” To help us increase our attachment for Lord Rama, we divided into groups to create poems on Lord Rama. The catch was that each person in the group had to write one line of the poem, pass it on to the next person who was then only allowed to look at the previous person’s line to write their own line!

The outcome was in some cases sweet and in other cases hilarious.

Check it out:

Sunaina, Kandarpa and Pooja wrote:

He is the God of everyone
His mercy and goodness leaves little time for fun
But it's more rewarding that any material "junk"
devotional service is the most fun
finding your way back to Rama,
to Krishna is when your life's just begun
That is the true goal of life
and we should take advantage to reach it through this human form of life

Reena, Mohini and Sitala wrote:

Lord Rama killed the demon Ravana,
who was the king of Lanka.
Rama was always there to save Sita
and save her He did from the land of Lanka
His pastimes are always cherished.
His name will never be perished.

Nandu, Caitanya, Kartik and Manoj wrote the classic:

Lord Rama is the most honourable one
Lord that came in the line of the sun
He has so much strength, he can surely run!
He has a devotee, who swallowed the sun,
who also burned Lanka thinking it was fun!
Rescue Sita, he was the only one,
but he surely got the job done
and had the demons on the run!
This wonderful katha can be discussed over milk and buns…
